Namesake

St. Robert Catholic High School was the first high school established in the York Catholic District School Board, in 1975 on the original site of St. Robert Elementary School. Additions and renovations have occurred in 1989 and 2006. St. Robert Bellarmine, our patron saint, was a Jesuit scholar and teacher. At eighteen, he entered the Jesuit order, and eventually became a professor at Louvain, a counsellor of Popes, Provincial of the Jesuits and Cardinal Archbishop of Capua. He is distinguished for his work on the catechism of the day and for his defense of Church doctrine against Lutherans and Calvinists of the 17th century.
